The Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) has recently made a significant change in its leadership by appointing Muhammad Amin Rajput as the acting Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This decision was announced in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday, marking a new chapter for the company as it navigates through a transitional period.

According to the notice, the Board of Directors (BoD) convened on September 12, 2024, to discuss the future of the company following the resignation of Imran Maniar, whose tenure is set to conclude on September 13, 2024. The board stated, “With Maniar’s tenure ending, Muhammad Amin Rajput has been appointed as the acting Managing Director (MD) / Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for an interim period.” This change comes as Maniar has decided to “pursue other opportunities,” a move that the board has respected and accepted.

Rajput brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has been with SSGC since March 2012, initially serving as the Chief Internal Auditor (CIA). In this capacity, he played a crucial role in implementing the Code of Corporate Governance and the Code of Ethics within the company. His expertise in operations, finance, and internal audit has been instrumental in guiding SSGC through various challenges.

Furthermore, Rajput served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from February 2015 to June 2016, where he successfully finalized three financial statements that had been pending due to issues with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). He also played a key role in securing financing for the Rs60 billion RLNG Transmission Pipeline Project, showcasing his ability to manage large-scale financial operations effectively.

As SSGC embarks on this new journey under Rajput’s leadership, stakeholders and employees alike will be watching closely to see how his extensive background will influence the company’s direction. The gas sector in Pakistan is crucial for the country’s energy needs, and effective leadership is essential for navigating the complexities of this industry.

The appointment of Muhammad Amin Rajput as the acting MD and CEO of SSGC is a pivotal moment for the company. His experience and previous contributions to SSGC position him well to lead the organization during this interim period. As the company looks to the future, it will be interesting to see how Rajput’s leadership will shape SSGC’s strategies and operations, ultimately impacting the energy landscape in Pakistan.
