ICE and ASITA sign MoU to establish direct flights, enhancing tourism and cultural ties between Pakistan and Indonesia.

In a significant development for tourism between Pakistan and Indonesia, the International Creatives Exchange (ICE) has partnered with the Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This agreement aims to establish direct air flight operations between the two countries, enhancing travel opportunities and fostering closer ties.

The MoU was signed at the Al Barkat Palace in South Jakarta, marking a pivotal moment for both nations. It consists of 11 key points designed to boost tourism, which is seen as a vital sector for economic growth. Atta Ul Karim, the chairman of ICE, expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration, highlighting his personal connection to both countries. "I was born in Pakistan, but grew up and got successful in Indonesia. So, I have to thank the two countries," he stated, emphasizing the importance of improving tourism for mutual benefit.

Mrs. Rusmiati, the President of ASITA, echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in the MoU. She noted that Pakistan has immense tourism potential that remains largely untapped. "Many countries have collaborated with ASITA, but Pakistan has not had any. In fact, its natural beauty is beyond imagination, even if it is compared to Switzerland or New Zealand," she remarked. This highlights the unique opportunities that lie ahead for both nations.

With ASITA boasting 89 branches and around seven thousand travel agencies across Indonesia, the potential for increased tourism is substantial. The collaboration is expected to open doors for halal tourism, which is a significant aspect for many travelers from Pakistan. The cultural similarities between the two countries, both being among the largest Muslim nations in the world, further enhance the appeal of this partnership.

During the signing ceremony, notable figures such as Mrs. Siti Nur Azizah, the daughter of the Indonesian Vice President, and Mr. Rahmat Hindiarta Kusuma, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad, were present. Mrs. Siti expressed her hopes that this cooperation would strengthen the long-standing friendly relations between the two nations, especially as they approach the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.

Mr. Rahmat Hindiarta Kusuma also shared his positive experiences in Pakistan, stating, "As an Indonesian living in Pakistan, I really enjoy wonderful natural landscapes in Pakistan." He emphasized the need for direct flights to facilitate travel and tourism, which currently faces challenges due to the absence of such services.

The signing of the MoU between ICE and ASITA represents a promising step towards enhancing tourism between Pakistan and Indonesia. With the potential for direct flights and increased collaboration, both countries stand to benefit significantly. This partnership not only aims to boost tourism but also to strengthen the cultural and economic ties that bind these two nations together. As travel becomes more accessible, it is hoped that more people will explore the rich heritage and natural beauty that both Pakistan and Indonesia have to offer.
