J.K. Rowling recently revealed in an interview that she had shared crucial details about Severus Snape's character arc with the late Alan Rickman long before it unfolded on screen. The bestselling author disclosed this information during a recorded interview where she answered questions about her writing process.

Rowling recounted how Rickman, who portrayed Snape in the Harry Potter film series, had reached out to her seeking clarity on his character's motivations. She disclosed, 'He was the only person I told: "You were in love with Harry's mother."'

Further elaborating on Snape's complexity, Rowling explained, 'You are a double agent. But you do dislike Harry. You can't overcome your quite visceral dislike of this boy who looks just like your arch enemy.' She shared that Rickman was informed about Snape's fate well in advance of it being depicted in the movies.

The author also reflected on the emotional toll of killing off characters in the series, expressing particular sorrow over the deaths of Snape, Lupin, Tonks, and Fred Weasley. Rowling acknowledged the inevitability of such events, stating, 'I don't like killing off characters, but it's part of life, isn't it? Killing Snape was awful. I always knew he was going to go.'

Alan Rickman, known for his portrayal of Snape in all eight Harry Potter films, brought depth and nuance to the character, captivating audiences with his portrayal of the enigmatic and conflicted wizard.
