Director J.C. Chandor reveals 'Kraven the Hunter' footage and hints at more Marvel characters at NYCC 2024.

In an exciting reveal at the New York Comic Con (NYCC) 2024, J.C. Chandor, the director of "Kraven the Hunter," showcased the first seven minutes of the highly anticipated film, set to release on December 13. This film is part of Sony's expanding Marvel universe, which has been gaining traction with audiences eager for more superhero content. Chandor, donning a Mets hat, shared insights about the film's R-rated nature and hinted at the inclusion of additional Marvel characters beyond the titular Kraven and the formidable Rhino.

During the presentation, Chandor expressed his pride in the film's set pieces and action sequences, stating, "We built some set pieces and some action pieces that I’m super proud of…it’s not just Kraven. We’ve got the opportunity to really dive into the Marvel characters here." This statement has sparked curiosity among fans about which other characters might make an appearance in the film.

The opening sequence, which was shown to the audience, features Kraven engaging in a human hunt within a prison setting. One attendee described the scene as "grounded, violent, charismatic work speaking Russian, and a bunch of guards with bad aim." This description paints a vivid picture of the film's tone, suggesting a blend of intensity and dark humor.

Following the screening, actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who portrays Kraven, discussed his character's motivations. He described Kraven as "an apex predator, the top of the food chain," emphasizing that he is a hunter, not a poacher. Taylor-Johnson elaborated, saying, "Like every hunter knows, sometimes you have to cull the herd to preserve order. Of course, when he starts applying that to human beings, it becomes a pretty dark story." This insight into Kraven's character hints at the moral complexities that the film may explore.

The audience was treated to a second clip showcasing "multiple very brutal kills," including methods such as murder by bear trap, axe, and tree stump. This further solidifies the film's commitment to its R-rating and its intention to deliver a raw and unfiltered portrayal of its characters.

In addition to the "Kraven the Hunter" presentation, Kelly Marcel, the director of "Venom: The Last Dance," also took the stage to discuss her film. She revealed that it takes place directly after the events of "Venom 2" and is described as a road trip movie featuring Venom and Eddie Brock as they evade pursuers from both their world and beyond. Tom Hardy, who plays Eddie Brock, expressed his love for the character, stating, "It’s been seven years doing this. It’s like I started the day seven years ago and now it’s night time, it’s time to go to sleep." Hardy confirmed that this film would be the last in the Venom series, although he remains open to the idea of facing off against Spider-Man in the future, saying, "I want to fight Spider-Man. I want to fight Spider-Man right now. I’m well up for it…. Never say never."

As the Sony symbiote universe continues to expand, Marcel hinted that the villain Knull will not be the main antagonist in "Venom: The Last Dance," suggesting that there is much more to come in this universe. With the film set to release on October 24, fans are eager to see how these narratives will unfold.

The presentations at NYCC 2024 have set the stage for an exciting future in the Marvel cinematic landscape. With the promise of complex characters, intense action, and a darker tone, both "Kraven the Hunter" and "Venom: The Last Dance" are poised to captivate audiences. As fans await these releases, the anticipation for how these stories will intertwine with the broader Marvel universe continues to grow.
