Windsor Castle, a cherished historic site, faces backlash as it introduces visit fees, sparking mixed reactions among residents and raising concerns about the impact on the local community.
Windsor Castle, a historic site cherished by locals for over two centuries, is undergoing a significant change that has stirred up discontent among residents. Since 1825, residents have enjoyed free access to the castle, but starting June 1st, 2024, a fee will be required for visits. The Royal Collection Trust has introduced a discounted rate for residents holding a Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Advantage Card, which offers discounts at various attractions.
Despite being a private residence, Windsor Castle has always welcomed visitors year-round. Residents can easily apply for the Advantage Card online at no cost. However, this decision has not been well-received by everyone. Parliamentary candidate Julian Tisi has voiced his disappointment, stating that locals who have always warmly welcomed tourists are now being charged for visits. In response, a spokesperson from the Royal Collection Trust explained that the pricing adjustment aligns with standard practices in the borough.
The recent change at Windsor Castle, introducing fees for visits, has sparked mixed reactions among residents. While some see it as a necessary adjustment in line with local practices, others, like Julian Tisi, express disappointment at the shift from the long-standing tradition of free access. As Windsor Castle continues to attract visitors from near and far, the impact of this change on the local community remains to be seen.
