Senator Rubina Khalid and Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman lead efforts to combat fraudulent activities targeting BISP beneficiaries through public awareness and verification measures.

In a recent meeting held in Islamabad, Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), and Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), came together to address the growing concern of fraudulent activities targeting BISP beneficiaries. The focus of the discussion was on safeguarding vulnerable individuals from scams, particularly those involving misleading messages and calls from the number 8171 impersonating 'BISP' and the rise of fake websites exploiting the BISP brand.

The primary objective of this collaborative effort is to protect beneficiaries from falling victim to deceptive practices and misinformation. A crucial aspect highlighted during the meeting was the urgent need to launch a comprehensive nationwide public awareness campaign to educate beneficiaries about these fraudulent schemes. To ensure effective action against these scams, a joint committee will be established to oversee progress and implement proactive measures.

Additionally, the meeting also addressed the verification of mobile numbers of BISP beneficiaries against their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs). Plans were discussed regarding the development of a system for the issuance of Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) to both current and new beneficiaries of the program.

Chairman Hafeez Ur Rehman affirmed the full support and cooperation of the PTA in strengthening these initiatives to guarantee the security and well-being of BISP beneficiaries.

The collaborative efforts between BISP and PTA signify a significant step towards protecting vulnerable individuals from fraudulent activities. By raising awareness, implementing verification measures, and ensuring cooperation, the aim is to create a safer environment for BISP beneficiaries. This proactive approach demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding the rights and interests of those relying on social welfare programs.
