The conflict between Ayub Teaching Hospital and AMTI Board intensifies over alleged unauthorized purchases, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in healthcare institutions.

The conflict between the administration of Ayub Teaching Hospital and the Board of Governors (BOG) of Ayub Medical Teaching Institute (AMTI) has reached a critical point, causing legal uncertainties. The AMTI BOG formed an inquiry committee to investigate alleged unauthorized purchases of medicines and equipment worth Rs930 million at the hospital. However, the proceedings of the committee have been stalled due to the closure of the BOG office by the hospital administration and the suspension of the BOG secretary.

The fact-finding inquiry committee, led by Asad Khan Jadoon, was unable to start its investigation as the BOG office was locked on the orders of the hospital director. The suspension of the BOG secretary, Hamid Mehmood, further complicated the situation, as the acting hospital director lacked the authority to take such action.

BOG Member Asad Khan intervened to rectify the situation, revoking the secretary's suspension and clarifying the secretary's role as an employee of the board, not part of MTI as per the MTI Act. The inquiry committee's notification on unauthorized purchases prompted the formation of an inquiry committee to delve deeper into the matter.

The inquiry committee, chaired by Asad Khan Jadoon and comprising Prof Sajid Kazmi, Prof Haq Nawaz, and M Zeeshan, was tasked with submitting a report within ten days. An emergency BOG meeting was held to address critical institutional issues, with some members abstaining from attendance.

The conflict between Ayub Teaching Hospital administration and AMTI BOG underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in healthcare institutions. Resolving these issues promptly is crucial to ensure the efficient functioning of medical facilities and the delivery of quality healthcare services to the public.
