Dengue Cases Surge in Punjab: 152 New Infections Reported

LAHORE: The ongoing battle against dengue fever in Punjab has taken a concerning turn, as the Health Department has confirmed 152 new cases in just the past 24 hours. Dengue, a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, has become a significant public health issue, particularly during the monsoon season when the mosquito population tends to surge.

Rawalpindi has emerged as the most affected area, reporting a staggering 133 new cases. This alarming statistic highlights the urgent need for effective measures to control the spread of the virus. Following Rawalpindi, Lahore has reported four new cases, while Chakwal has seen two. Other areas, including Gujranwala and Attock, each recorded three cases, and one case was reported in Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Layyah.

In total, the province has recorded 746 new cases over the past week, bringing the cumulative number of dengue cases in Punjab to 2,117 for the year 2024. This surge in cases has prompted health officials to take immediate action. A spokesperson from the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department reassured the public that the government is actively managing the outbreak. Hospitals are reportedly well-stocked with the necessary medicines and treatments to combat dengue.
