The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department faces scrutiny as DIG Asif Ijaz Sheikh warns officers for ineffective handling of critical situations, emphasizing the need for immediate improvements in combating terrorism and maintaining public trust.

The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) recently came under scrutiny for its lack of effectiveness in handling critical situations, leading to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Asif Ijaz Sheikh issuing a stern warning during an urgent meeting. The meeting, held at the CTD headquarters, aimed to address concerns regarding the officers' performance in dealing with incidents involving Japanese nationals, targeted police officers, and the apprehension of militants linked to civilian murders during robbery attempts.

DIG Sheikh expressed disappointment over the officers' inadequate responses and questioned the utilization of significant financial resources allocated to the Sindh Police. He even raised the possibility of shutting down the CTD if immediate improvements were not observed. Stressing the importance of tangible outcomes, such as capturing terrorists in high-profile cases, DIG Sheikh closely examined the deployment of personnel within the CTD.

Despite the presence of specialized units within the CTD, officers failed to showcase substantial achievements, as revealed by DIG Sheikh. He mentioned that Inspector General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of CTD personnel, leading to the urgent meeting. Recent incidents, including three cases of ransom kidnappings involving CTD officers, resulted in the arrest and dismissal of over a dozen individuals from their positions due to alleged involvement in illegal activities.

The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department's performance has raised concerns among top officials, highlighting the need for immediate improvements to enhance security measures and combat terrorism effectively. The call for accountability and efficiency within law enforcement agencies underscores the importance of maintaining public trust and safety in the region.
