Engr Younas Appointed Acting MD of NTDC

In a significant development for the energy sector in Pakistan, the Board of Directors of the National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDC) has appointed Engr Muhammad Waseem Younas as the acting Managing Director. This decision was made during the 281st meeting of the Board, which took place recently. Engr Younas, who previously served as the Deputy Managing Director (SO) of NTDC, will hold this position until a permanent Managing Director is appointed.

Engr Muhammad Waseem Younas is well-equipped for this role, holding a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the prestigious University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore. With over 34 years of experience in the power sector, he has developed a robust understanding of various critical areas, including power system analysis, transmission planning, and system operation. His extensive background positions him as a capable leader during this transitional period.

Throughout his career, Engr Younas has made remarkable contributions to the energy sector. He has been instrumental in developing short-, medium-, and long-term power system expansion plans. His work includes conducting cross-border studies and proposing interconnection schemes that facilitate the evacuation of power from both conventional and renewable energy generation projects. Additionally, he has played a vital role in resolving grid system constraints and improving system stability.

Engr Younas has also been involved in reviewing feasibility study reports from consultants, preparing project documents (PC-1s and PC-IIs) for NTDC projects, and developing the Indicative Generation Capacity Expansion Plan (IGCEP) and Transmission System Expansion Plan (TSEP). His efforts in preparing the Grid Code and supporting Distribution Companies (DISCOs) and K-Electric (KE) on network expansion have been noteworthy. Furthermore, he has facilitated the enactment of the Competitive Trading Bilateral Contract Market (CTBCM) and has executed system operator functions under the CTBCM roadmap.

With the issuance of the official notification, Engr Muhammad Waseem Younas has officially assumed the responsibilities of Managing Director at NTDC. His leadership comes at a crucial time when the energy sector is facing numerous challenges and opportunities.
