The Congo virus outbreak in Attock district claims two lives, prompting health authorities to take preventive measures and urge community vigilance.

The Congo virus has struck fear in the hearts of residents in Attock district, as two individuals have tragically lost their lives to this deadly disease. The victims, a male from Hazro and a female from Tehsil Jhand, succumbed to the virus while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi. Another patient is currently fighting for their life in critical condition, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Health authorities sprang into action following the deaths of the two patients, both originally from Attock district. To prevent further spread of the Congo virus, authorities have imposed restrictions on the transportation of sacrificial animals from Attock to other regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Three patients, including a woman, were swiftly transferred to Benazir Bhutto Hospital after showing symptoms of the virus. Upon admission to the ICU, they exhibited alarming signs such as bleeding from the mouth and nose. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the Congo virus in their blood samples, underscoring the urgent need for medical intervention.

Dr. Tahir Rizvi, the Medical Superintendent of Benazir Bhutto Hospital, sadly confirmed the occurrence of two fatalities due to the Congo virus in May 2024. The community is urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard against this deadly threat.
