IRSA data reveals high water levels and releases at Tarbela and Mangla Dams, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and managing water resources in the Indus River system.

The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) recently released data regarding water levels and releases at various points in the Indus River system. This information is crucial for understanding the current water situation in the region and managing water resources effectively.

At Tarbela Dam, the water level in River Indus was measured at 1497.68 feet, significantly above its dead level of 1,398 feet. The dam recorded a substantial inflow of 277,400 cusecs and an outflow of 144,200 cusecs. Similarly, at Mangla Dam on River Jhelum, the water level exceeded its dead level by 140.25 feet, with an inflow of 45,200 cusecs and an outflow of 20,000 cusecs.

The release of water at different points was as follows: Kalabagh (187,200 cusecs), Taunsa (173,900 cusecs), Guddu (108,100 cusecs), and Sukkur (38,900 cusecs) from River Indus. River Kabul saw a release of 90,500 cusecs at Nowshera, while River Chenab released 55,700 cusecs at Marala.

Monitoring water levels and releases in the Indus River system is essential for water management and ensuring adequate water supply for various purposes. This data helps authorities make informed decisions to optimize water usage and mitigate potential risks related to water scarcity or flooding.
