Ismail Global and Legal Aid Society unite to provide free legal assistance for survivors of gender-based violence in Pakistan.
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a pressing issue that affects countless individuals across the globe, particularly in vulnerable communities. In Pakistan, the need for accessible legal support for survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) has never been more critical. Recognizing this urgent need, Ismail Global and the Legal Aid Society (LAS) have taken a significant step by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at providing free legal assistance to those affected by such violence.
This collaboration is designed to enhance access to justice for marginalized groups, including women, transgender persons, and individuals with disabilities. The focus will be on various cases, including domestic violence, harassment, child marriage, and other human rights violations. The MoU was officially signed at the LAS office, with key representatives from both organizations present to witness this important event.
Hamid Ismail, the CEO of Ismail Global, expressed his dedication to tackling the issue of gender-based violence. He stated, "We are dedicated to making a meaningful difference by supporting survivors of gender-based violence through accessible legal recourse. This partnership with LAS represents our continued commitment to corporate social responsibility and the well-being of marginalized communities." His words reflect a strong commitment to not only addressing the immediate needs of survivors but also fostering a culture of support and understanding.
Barrister Haya Zahid, the CEO of the Legal Aid Society, also praised the partnership, calling it "monumental in closing the justice gap for survivors of gender-based violence." She emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, "With Ismail Global's support, we can ensure that survivors receive the legal support they need to rebuild their lives while also driving systemic change to protect the most vulnerable members of our society." This highlights the dual focus of the initiative: providing immediate legal assistance while also working towards long-term solutions to prevent such violence.
Under the terms of the agreement, Ismail Global will fund a dedicated team of lawyers who will be stationed at LAS’s offices. This arrangement allows the lawyers to benefit from the organization’s established systems for case management, legal expertise, and advocacy. Such a setup not only streamlines the process for survivors seeking help but also ensures that they receive the best possible legal representation.
The partnership between Ismail Global and the Legal Aid Society serves as a powerful example of how collaboration between the corporate and non-profit sectors can drive meaningful social change. By working together, these organizations are reaffirming their commitment to advancing human rights and gender equality in Pakistan.
The MoU between Ismail Global and the Legal Aid Society is a beacon of hope for many survivors of gender-based violence. It underscores the importance of accessible legal support and the need for collective action to address such critical issues. As society continues to grapple with the challenges posed by gender-based violence, initiatives like this remind us that change is possible when organizations unite for a common cause. Together, they are not just providing legal assistance; they are paving the way for a more just and equitable society.
