The Islamabad High Court clarifies false allegations regarding Justice Aurangzeb's petition against intelligence agencies. Importance of accurate reporting and verifying information on social media highlighted.

In a recent development at the Islamabad High Court (IHC), a viral social media post alleging that Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb had filed a petition against the country's intelligence agency was deemed baseless. The post, originating from a purported PTI leader, falsely claimed that Justice Aurangzeb took legal action due to threats received by judges' families from spy agencies. However, the IHC clarified that Justice Aurangzeb was not part of the six judges who formally complained about intelligence agencies interfering in judicial matters.

On March 25, six IHC judges, including Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Babar Sattar, penned a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, accusing spy agencies of meddling in judicial affairs. This action prompted the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice after more than 300 lawyers urged the SC to address the issue under Article 184(3) of the Constitution.

The IHC judges emphasized the alleged intimidation of judges by intelligence operatives, which they viewed as a threat to the judiciary's independence. The tweet claiming Justice Aurangzeb's involvement in filing a petition against the ISI chief was debunked by the IHC as false.

The Islamabad High Court's dismissal of the misinformation surrounding Justice Aurangzeb's supposed petition against the intelligence agency underscores the importance of verifying information before spreading it on social media. This incident serves as a reminder of the need for accurate reporting and responsible sharing of news to maintain the integrity of the judiciary and uphold the principles of justice.
