Karachi's Mayor Murtaza Wahab announces ongoing infrastructure restoration efforts following recent heavy rainfall, ensuring quality and transparency.

In recent weeks, Karachi has faced significant challenges due to heavy rainfall, which has severely impacted the city's infrastructure. Roads have been damaged, and transportation has become difficult for many residents. In response to these pressing issues, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced that restoration work is currently underway to repair the affected infrastructure.

During a recent statement, Mayor Wahab emphasized that the restoration efforts are progressing rapidly. He highlighted that repair and resurfacing work is being conducted on key roads around Qasba Morr in Orangi Town. This initiative aims to enhance transportation for local residents, making their daily commutes smoother and more efficient.

Moreover, the Mayor pointed out that several other important roads, including I.I. Chundrigar Road, Shahrah e Orangi, Gi Alana Road, Baloch Colony Road, and Mewa Shah Road, are also receiving priority attention. The goal is to restore these vital routes as quickly as possible, ensuring that citizens can navigate the city without undue hardship.

In a collaborative effort, the Sindh government has requested town administrations to provide suggestions for the repair and restoration of sub-roads and streets within their jurisdictions. This approach aims to ensure that all roads and streets in Karachi are made motorable, thereby improving overall accessibility.

Despite facing criticism, Mayor Wahab remains committed to the restoration efforts, stating, "Those who criticize will continue to do so; we will keep working and will adhere to a strategy of including everyone in the efforts for the city’s improvement." This statement reflects a determination to focus on constructive solutions rather than getting bogged down by negativity.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is actively involved in the repair and resurfacing of roads and highways affected by the rains. The Mayor assured that all available resources are being utilized to expedite the restoration process. Additionally, KMC has offered to assist in the repair of streets and sub-roads within town administrations, fostering a spirit of collaboration to enhance the city.

To ensure the quality of construction work, the KMC is implementing measures to discourage substandard practices. Contractors who fail to meet quality standards are being blacklisted, and a continuous monitoring system is being established. This initiative aims to ensure that every penny allocated for the city’s construction and development is used transparently and effectively.

Mayor Wahab reiterated that repair and restoration work is ongoing across all districts of Karachi without discrimination. He believes in maintaining a uniform pace of development throughout the city and is in constant communication with relevant civic bodies to ensure that progress is made.

Looking ahead, the KMC is set to receive an annual development program budget of approximately Rs 10 to 11 billion over the next few years, along with more than Rs 3 billion from various taxes. This funding will play a crucial role in supporting road construction projects. However, the Mayor stressed the importance of elected representatives fulfilling their duties with integrity and actively engaging with relevant bodies to address the issues in their areas.

The restoration of Karachi's infrastructure is a significant undertaking that requires collaboration, transparency, and commitment from all stakeholders. As the city works towards recovery, it is essential for citizens to remain engaged and supportive of these efforts, ensuring that Karachi emerges stronger and more resilient in the face of future challenges.
