Lahore Driver Fined Rs51,800 for 108 Traffic Violations

In Lahore, a driver has recently faced a hefty fine of Rs51,800 after accumulating an astonishing 108 traffic violations through the city's electronic challan system. This incident underscores the growing concern regarding road safety and the enforcement of traffic regulations in urban areas. With the increasing number of vehicles on the roads, it has become crucial for authorities to ensure that drivers adhere to the rules to prevent accidents and promote safer driving habits.

The vehicle in question was caught on camera by Traffic Warden Mohsin Abbas while traversing the busy Mall Road. The footage revealed that the driver had run red lights a staggering 80 times, violated lane discipline 19 times, and neglected to use seatbelts on nine occasions. Such reckless behavior not only endangers the driver but also poses a significant risk to other road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar has emphasized the importance of compliance with traffic regulations, especially as monitoring efforts have intensified. She has issued a stern warning that drivers who fail to pay their e-challans will face restrictions when trying to access essential police services, such as obtaining driving licenses and character certificates. This measure aims to encourage responsible driving and ensure that offenders are held accountable for their actions.

Moreover, authorities are cracking down on individuals who attempt to evade fines by tampering with vehicle registration plates. This illegal practice not only undermines the enforcement of traffic laws but also contributes to a culture of impunity among repeat offenders.

In a bid to enhance road safety, Punjab has introduced AI-based e-challans, which automate the detection of traffic violations. This innovative approach, as explained by Muhammad Shafique Ahmad, Operation Commander of Punjab Safe City, aims to streamline the process of monitoring traffic and ensuring that violators are promptly penalized.
