NA Body Proposes Stricter Penalties for Fake Seed Manufacturers

In recent years, the issue of fake seeds has emerged as a significant concern for farmers and the agricultural sector in Pakistan. The committee suggested that the maximum imprisonment for individuals found guilty of this offense be increased to two years. Additionally, they recommended raising the fines to a staggering Rs2 million. This move is seen as a necessary step to deter those who engage in the production and distribution of fake seeds, which have detrimental effects on agriculture and food security.

The committee has also directed the Ministry of Agriculture to collaborate with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to address this pressing issue. They expect a report on the progress made in this regard at the next meeting. This collaboration is crucial, as it will help in identifying and penalizing those involved in the illegal seed trade more effectively.
