Pakistan condemns the use of electronic means in Lebanon attacks, urging accountability from Israel and reaffirming commitment to global peace.

In recent days, the world has witnessed a troubling escalation of violence in Lebanon, marked by attacks that utilized electronic means for detonation. This alarming trend has raised significant concerns regarding the use of technology in committing acts of terrorism. The Foreign Office of Pakistan has taken a firm stance against these actions, labeling them as "reprehensible" and a clear violation of international norms.

During a weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch expressed Pakistan's strong condemnation of the attacks in Lebanon. She stated, "Pakistan strongly condemns this week’s attacks in Lebanon carried out through detonation of electronic equipment. The use of cyber and electronic means to commit terrorism in foreign countries is reprehensible." This statement underscores Pakistan's commitment to supporting Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity while calling for accountability from Israel for its actions in the region.

Baloch highlighted that these terror attacks are indicative of Israel's "alarming adventurism" in the Middle East, which poses a threat to peace and security. She urged the international community to take immediate action to hold Israel accountable for its alleged acts of international terrorism and violations of international law. Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of implementing the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Advisory Opinion delivered earlier this year, which calls for urgent measures to protect the rights of affected populations.

In addition to addressing the situation in Lebanon, Baloch condemned the recent Israeli air strikes on schools and refugee shelters in Gaza. She pointed out that such attacks violate the spirit of ICJ provisional measures, which advocate for the provision of essential services and humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. This highlights the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region and the need for immediate international intervention.

Looking ahead, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is set to participate in the high-level segment of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York from September 23-27. During this session, he will reaffirm Pakistan's commitment to multilateralism and the role of the United Nations in promoting global peace and security. The Prime Minister is expected to address long-standing issues on the UN Security Council's agenda, including the questions of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.

Moreover, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister will accompany the Prime Minister and represent Pakistan at the Summit of the Future, convened by the UN Secretary-General. This summit will focus on pressing global challenges, and the Foreign Minister will also engage in various ministerial meetings, emphasizing Pakistan's active role in international diplomacy.

In response to a question regarding diplomatic relations, Baloch reiterated Pakistan's position on the recent disrespect shown to its national anthem by Afghan officials. She stated that such actions are against diplomatic norms and that Pakistan reserves the right to take appropriate measures. This reflects Pakistan's commitment to upholding its national dignity and the importance of mutual respect in international relations.

Furthermore, discussions with a Russian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk have shown positive momentum in Pakistan-Russia relations. Both sides have agreed to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including trade, energy, and education, which could lead to significant benefits for both nations.

The recent events in Lebanon and the broader geopolitical landscape highlight the urgent need for international cooperation to address terrorism and uphold human rights. As nations navigate these complex challenges, it is crucial for the global community to unite in promoting peace, security, and respect for international law. The actions taken by Pakistan and other nations in response to these issues will play a vital role in shaping the future of regional stability and international relations.
