PHA reveals timeline for reopening parks in Lahore as part of efforts to combat smog and improve air quality through various initiatives.
In recent years, Lahore has faced significant challenges due to rising pollution levels and the persistent threat of smog. As the city grapples with these environmental issues, the Parks Horticultural Authority (PHA) has taken decisive steps to address the situation. The Director General of PHA, Muhammad Tahir Watto, has announced a timeline for reopening parks once the smog levels decrease and weather conditions improve. This decision comes as part of the Punjab government's broader strategy to combat air pollution.
Currently, all parks in Lahore are temporarily closed to the public as a precautionary measure against the harmful effects of smog. The PHA is committed to making Lahore a cleaner and greener city, and this includes implementing various initiatives aimed at reducing pollution. One of the key strategies involves an extensive tree washing program that has been launched across the city. This initiative is designed to clean trees, plants, and flowers along major roads and green spaces, thereby improving air quality.
The tree washing process is being carried out diligently by PHA teams, who work from early morning until late evening. Major thoroughfares such as Mall Road, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Gulberg, and Model Town are receiving special attention. By cleaning the foliage, the PHA aims to mitigate the harmful effects of airborne pollutants that contribute to smog.
Moreover, the DG emphasized the importance of tree plantation in combating air pollution. Under the “Lang Lahore” project, the PHA is expanding its tree planting goals to further enhance the city’s green cover. This project focuses on planting trees around the Ravi River and is progressing rapidly, with plans to include additional areas to improve Lahore's environmental health.
As Lahore continues to battle the challenges posed by pollution and smog, the efforts of the PHA are crucial. The reopening of parks will not only provide residents with access to green spaces but also symbolize a step towards a healthier environment. It is essential for the community to support these initiatives and participate in tree plantation drives, as every small effort counts in the fight against pollution. Together, we can work towards a cleaner, greener Lahore for future generations.
