PM Shehbaz Sharif announces the Electricity Sahulat Package to provide financial relief to consumers across Pakistan amid rising energy costs.
In a significant move aimed at alleviating the financial strain on electricity consumers across Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled the "Electricity Sahulat Package." This initiative, set to last for three months, is designed to provide relief to domestic, commercial, and industrial users of electricity. The announcement was made during an event commemorating Iqbal Day in Islamabad, a day dedicated to honoring the legacy of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Pakistan’s revered national poet and philosopher.
The Electricity Sahulat Package is particularly timely, as many households and businesses are grappling with rising energy costs. Starting from December 2024 and continuing through February 2025, this package aims to ease the burden of additional electricity usage during the winter months. Domestic consumers will benefit from a flat rate of Rs. 26.7 per unit, which translates to savings ranging from Rs. 11.42 to Rs. 26 per unit, depending on their current tariff slab. This means that families can expect a noticeable reduction in their monthly electricity bills, allowing them to allocate funds to other essential needs.
For industrial users, the package promises to cut electricity costs by Rs. 5.72 to Rs. 15 per unit, resulting in savings of 18% to 37%. This reduction is expected to boost the industrial sector, which is vital for the country’s economic growth. Similarly, commercial consumers will see savings of Rs. 13.46 to Rs. 22 per unit, equating to a 34% to 47% decrease in their electricity expenses. Such significant reductions are likely to enhance the profitability of businesses, enabling them to invest more in their operations and workforce.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that this relief package is not limited to specific regions but will be implemented nationwide, ensuring that all citizens of Pakistan can benefit equally. This commitment to equitable relief is crucial in a country where disparities in access to resources often lead to unequal opportunities.
In his address, the Prime Minister also took a moment to reflect on the contributions of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, whose vision for a progressive and united Pakistan continues to inspire generations. By launching the Electricity Sahulat Package on such a significant day, the government not only addresses immediate economic concerns but also aligns its efforts with the broader aspirations of the nation.
The Electricity Sahulat Package represents a proactive step by the government to support its citizens during challenging times. As families and businesses prepare for the upcoming winter months, this initiative could provide much-needed financial relief, fostering a sense of hope and stability. It is essential for consumers to stay informed about these changes and take advantage of the benefits offered, ensuring that they can navigate the complexities of energy costs with greater ease.
