Punjab Governor Advocates Against Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is a grave issue that affects millions of people worldwide, including in Pakistan. It involves the illegal trade of humans for the purposes of forced labor, sexual exploitation, and other forms of modern slavery. Recently, a significant workshop aimed at combating human trafficking was held at the Governor's House in Lahore. This two-day training session was organized in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Federation of Associations (IFA). Participants included representatives from various civil society organizations, all united in their mission to raise awareness and provide support to victims of this heinous crime.

During the workshop, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan emphasized the importance of understanding that traveling abroad through illegal means is a crime. He stated, "There is a need to create awareness among people so that they don't fall victim to those who are involved in the criminal business of human trafficking." His remarks highlight the critical role that education and information play in preventing individuals from becoming victims.

The Governor praised the efforts of the IOM, particularly the Chief of Mission, M. Mio Sato, for their commitment to enhancing the capabilities of both governmental and non-governmental organizations. He noted that the IOM is making significant strides in raising public awareness and providing essential resources to combat human trafficking.

Furthermore, the workshop focused on identifying victims of human trafficking and ensuring they receive the necessary support for rehabilitation. This initiative is crucial, as it not only helps victims regain their lives but also strengthens the community's resilience against such crimes.
