SSGC suspends gas supply in DHA and Korangi

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced the suspension of gas supply to the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and Korangi areas due to the installation of a new pipeline. The new gas distribution pipeline project from Azeempura to Jam Sadiq Bridge will result in a complete suspension of gas supply on June 23, from 8am till 8pm in all sectors of Korangi and DHA, affecting various residential and industrial areas.

The impacted areas include Defence view, Manzoor Colony, Akhtar Colony, Kashmir Colony, Mehmoodabad, Azam Basti, Qayyumabad, and several phases of DHA. SSGC has also intensified efforts to curb gas theft, with recent raids resulting in the removal of 770 illegal gas connections in Sindh and Balochistan. FIRs have been lodged against offenders involved in stealing gas, particularly in Karachi where 570 illegal connections were dismantled in residential areas.

Residents were found to have illegally extended gas connections, leading to the removal of these unauthorized connections during the raids. Notably, an FIR was filed against a bakery owner in North Karachi for illegally connecting a high voltage generator directly to the gas line.

The suspension of gas supply in DHA and Korangi areas is a temporary inconvenience aimed at improving the gas distribution infrastructure. While this may disrupt daily activities for residents and businesses in the affected areas, it is necessary for the long-term reliability and safety of the gas supply network.
