Aleem Dar, a name synonymous with cricket officiating, has announced his retirement at the end of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s 2024-25 season. This decision marks the conclusion of a remarkable career that has lasted nearly 25 years, during which he has earned immense respect and admiration from players, fans, and cricketing authorities alike.
Born in 1966, Aleem Dar began his journey in cricket as a player, participating in 17 first-class and 18 List-A matches from 1986 to 1998. However, it was his transition to umpiring that truly defined his legacy. He made his first-class umpiring debut during the 1998-99 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, and since then, he has become a prominent figure in the world of cricket officiating.
Throughout his career, Aleem has been recognized for his exceptional skills and professionalism. He is a three-time recipient of the prestigious David Shepherd Trophy for ICC Umpire of the Year, awarded in 2009, 2010, and 2011. His tenure on the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires from 2003 to 2023 solidified his reputation as one of the best in the business. Known for his calm demeanor, excellent player management skills, and sound decision-making, Aleem has officiated in a staggering 145 Tests, 231 ODIs, 72 T20Is, 5 WT20Is, 181 first-class matches, and 282 List-A matches.
Currently, Aleem is part of the PCB’s Elite Panel and remains one of four Pakistani umpires on the ICC’s International Panel, which allows him to officiate in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 Internationals (T20Is).
