Italian courts order Juventus to pay Cristiano Ronaldo 9.7 million euros in back wages for the 2020-21 season after arbitration ruling in Ronaldo's favor.

Juventus has been ordered by the Italian courts to pay Cristiano Ronaldo 9.7 million euros in back wages for the 2020-21 season. The Court of Arbitration ruled in favor of Ronaldo, stating that Juventus must pay him 9,774,166.66 euros, along with interest and procedural costs. This amount represents the difference between the actual salary Ronaldo received and what he should have been paid after tax deductions.

Ronaldo, who played for Juventus from 2018 to 2021 before moving to Manchester United and then Al Nassr, had initially claimed 19.5 million euros, but the arbitration panel reduced the amount by 50 percent. Despite being the highest-paid sportsman in the world in 2023, according to Forbes, earning $136 million, including $46 million in wages, Ronaldo pursued legal action to recover the unpaid wages from his time at Juventus.

Juventus, a club facing financial challenges with losses of 123.7 million euros in the 2022-23 financial year, has not accounted for the payment of Ronaldo's back wages in their financial records. The club, currently ranked third in Serie A, has yet to issue a statement regarding the court's decision.
