KP CM Ali Amin Khan Gandapur highlights sports' role in youth development at the All Pakistan Inter-Boards Girls Cricket and Tennis Championship.
PESHAWAR: The All Pakistan Inter-Boards Girls Cricket and Tennis Championship recently concluded at the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Peshawar, showcasing the talents of young female athletes from across the country. This event, which took place from November 9 to November 13, aimed to promote sports among girls and provide them with a platform to demonstrate their skills. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, graced the occasion as the chief guest, emphasizing the significance of sports in the overall development of youth.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister distributed trophies, shields, and cash prizes to the teams that excelled in the competitions. Each participating team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000, highlighting the government's commitment to encouraging sports participation. The tennis competition saw five boards, including Lahore, Mardan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and the Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE) Lahore, compete fiercely. The Lahore Board emerged victorious, followed closely by Mardan Board, while Peshawar Board and PBTE Lahore shared the third position.
In the cricket tournament, a total of ten teams participated, representing various regions such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Abbottabad, Malakand, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Swat, Mardan, Peshawar, and PBTE Lahore. The Lahore Board once again claimed the top spot, with Peshawar Board finishing as the runner-up. This competitive spirit not only fosters camaraderie among the participants but also encourages healthy competition.
In addition to the awards, the Chief Minister inaugurated a newly constructed gymnasium at the Peshawar Board, built at a cost of Rs 160 million. This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with amenities for boxing, karate, taekwondo, table tennis, wrestling, and a fitness gym, providing a comprehensive environment for athletes to train and excel.
Addressing the attendees, Chief Minister Gandapur welcomed participants from various provinces and underscored the importance of balancing sports with academic pursuits. He stated, “The purpose of holding such events is to polish the skills of our youth and prepare them for practical life ahead.” His words resonated with the audience, as he reiterated the government's dedication to creating opportunities for students in both education and sports.
Quoting former Prime Minister Imran Khan, he remarked, “A person becomes great when he dreams big,” encouraging the youth to set ambitious goals and pursue them with courage. He acknowledged that challenges are an inevitable part of the journey to success and urged the athletes to face them head-on. The Chief Minister congratulated the Lahore Board’s cricket team on their victory and emphasized the importance of investing in the youth.
Ali Amin Gandapur expressed his commitment to providing maximum opportunities for girls, enabling them to excel and prove their capabilities. He expressed hope for the future organization of such events in even better forms, fostering a culture of sportsmanship and excellence among young women.
