LAHORE: The excitement is palpable as the Pakistan Shaheens prepare to take on India A in the opening match of the Asian Cricket Council Men's T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup on October 19. This tournament is a significant platform for young cricketers to showcase their talent and potentially earn a spot in the national team. Led by the dynamic Mohammad Haris, the Shaheens are gearing up for a challenging competition that kicks off on October 18.

Before heading to Oman, the team will undergo a training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi from October 11 to 15. This preparation is crucial as the players will need to be in top form to face formidable opponents like India A, who were last year's finalists. The squad includes promising talents such as Abdul Samad, Ahmed Daniyal, Yasir Khan, and Zaman Khan, all of whom will be representing Pakistan Shaheens for the first time.

In recent performances, Samad has shown his prowess by playing for UMT Markhors in the Champions One-Day Cup 2024-25, where he maintained an impressive strike rate of 122.88. Daniyal, on the other hand, made a mark by taking 10 wickets while playing for Nurpur Lions. Yasir and Zaman also contributed to their teams in the same tournament, showcasing their skills in various matches.

The tournament will feature eight teams divided into two groups, with all matches taking place at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground in Muscat. Group A includes Afghanistan A, Bangladesh A, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka A, while Pakistan Shaheens find themselves in Group B alongside India A, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Following their match against India A, the Shaheens will face Oman on October 21 and conclude their group stage against the UAE on October 23.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for October 25, with the final set to take place on October 27. This format not only adds excitement but also increases the stakes for each match, making every game a must-watch.

With a blend of experienced players and fresh talent, the Pakistan Shaheens are poised to make a significant impact in this tournament. The upcoming matches will not only test their skills but also provide invaluable experience for the young cricketers. As fans eagerly await the clash against India A, it is clear that this tournament is more than just a competition; it is an opportunity for the next generation of cricketers to shine on an international stage.
