Pakistan U19 team is set to face India in the Asia Cup opener in Dubai, showcasing young talent and aiming for a strong performance.
Pakistan is all set to embark on its journey in the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup, with the opening match against India scheduled for Saturday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS). This tournament, featuring eight teams, is a significant event in the cricket calendar, showcasing the best young talent from across Asia. The competition kicks off on Friday, with Group A matches taking place in Dubai and Group B games at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium (SCS).
In Group A, Pakistan finds itself alongside formidable opponents such as India, Japan, and the UAE. The team is determined to improve upon its previous performance, where they narrowly missed out on reaching the final. Group B includes teams like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, making the competition fierce and exciting.
The semi-finals are set for December 6, with the grand final taking place at DICS on December 8. Matches will commence at 10:00 AM PKT, with the toss scheduled for 9:30 AM PKT. Under the leadership of captain Saad Baig, Pakistan will also face the UAE on December 2 and Japan on December 4, both matches being held at DICS.
The squad boasts four players who participated in the last U19 Asia Cup in December 2023: Mohammad Riazullah, Saad Baig, Shahzaib Khan, and Tayyab Arif. This experience could prove invaluable as they navigate the challenges of the tournament. Prior to the Asia Cup, Pakistan spent three weeks in Dubai, competing in a tri-series against Afghanistan and the UAE. Although they finished as runners-up, the experience gained during this series is expected to enhance their performance in the upcoming matches.
Shahzaib Khan has been in remarkable form, scoring 330 runs, which includes one century and three fifties. Usman Khan also contributed significantly with 314 runs. On the bowling front, Abdul Subhan and Ali Raza have been impressive, each claiming nine wickets during the tri-series. This blend of batting and bowling talent gives Pakistan a strong chance in the tournament.
In a recent statement to PCB Digital, captain Saad Baig expressed his confidence in the team’s preparation and determination, stating, "We’ve had a good warm-up in Dubai and are ready for the Asia Cup. The players are motivated and focused on delivering consistent performances against tough competition." This positive mindset is crucial as they prepare to face one of their biggest rivals, India.
As the tournament unfolds, cricket fans will be eagerly watching to see if Pakistan can rise to the occasion and secure a spot in the final. The U19 Asia Cup not only serves as a platform for young cricketers to showcase their skills but also plays a vital role in shaping the future of cricket in Pakistan. With a mix of talent, experience, and determination, the team is poised to make a significant impact in this prestigious tournament.
