The 9th Thal Jeep Rally kicks off on November 7 in Muzaffargarh, featuring international racers and vibrant cultural events.
MUZAFFARGARH - The excitement is palpable as the 9th Annual Thal Jeep Rally approaches, set to kick off on November 7. This thrilling event will see car racers from across the globe, including an international competitor making his debut, showcase their speed and skills on a challenging 195-kilometre sandy route. The rally promises to be a vibrant four-day spectacle, culminating in the main races on November 9 and 10, with the route stretching from Muzaffargarh to Layyah via Kot Addu and back.
Event Manager Nauman, along with senior TDCP official Misbah Ishaq, confirmed that preparations are in full swing. Currently, 50 to 55 car racers have registered, but this number is expected to rise as registration remains open until the evening of November 7. Among the participants is Asif Ali, a British national of Pakistani descent, who will compete in the stock category race on November 9 after the qualifying round on November 8. Asif has customized his race car in Pakistan, showcasing his dedication to the sport.
The rally is not just about speed; it also celebrates the rich culture of Punjab. While the racers navigate the almost oval-shaped route, spectators can enjoy various cultural events and games, including tent pegging, spear throwing, Kabaddi, and ‘Mushaira’. Notable folk singers, such as Arif Lohar and local talent Gulab, will entertain the crowd, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The race track from Muzaffargarh to tehsil Chobara in district Layyah covers nearly 100 kilometers, with a different return route. The race will commence from Changa Manga mound at Head Muhammad Wala in Muzaffargarh. On November 7, the day of registration, participants will undergo tagging, technical inspections, and medical checks from 9 AM to 3 PM. The qualifying round on November 8 will determine the starting order for the racers.
Officials have announced that the competition will feature thirteen different categories, providing a platform for various skill levels. The event will also highlight Punjab's culture through traditional activities like buggy rides and Jhoomer dance performances, with school children participating to showcase their talents.
In terms of security, DPO Muzaffargarh Syed Husnain Haidar has assured that a robust security detail will be in place. A total of 863 constables, 93 head constables, 90 ASIs, 63 sub-inspectors, and 15 inspectors will be on duty around the clock, supervised by six Sub Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs). This extensive security arrangement aims to ensure the safety of both national and international racers, as well as the countless spectators expected to attend this grand automotive event.
