Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2024 performance disappoints, prompting Usman Shinwari to urge PCB for strategic changes in team selection and focus on nurturing young talent.

Pakistan's recent performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 has left fans and cricketers disappointed. Fast bowler Usman Shinwari has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to rest senior players, including captain Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Shinwari believes that the senior players have been overworked, which has hindered the development of new talent in the team. He criticized the seniors for not providing opportunities to domestic cricketers, resulting in a limited pool of players representing Pakistan.

Shinwari stressed the importance of giving chances to players from domestic cricket and suggested moving away from selecting players solely based on Pakistan Super League (PSL) performances. His comments come after Pakistan's disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup due to their underwhelming performance in the group stage matches. The team's failure to advance to the Super Eight led to their early elimination from the tournament.

Pakistan faced backlash for their defeats against the US and India, with their lone victory coming against Canada. Their hopes were shattered when the match between the US and Ireland was abandoned due to rain, sealing Pakistan's fate in the competition. The final group match against Ireland became a mere formality before the team headed back home.

Post their World Cup exit, several Pakistani players have signed up for the Global T20 Canada League, starting on July 25. Players such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, and Asif Ali will play for Vancouver Knights, while Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz have joined Toronto Nationals. Iftikhar Ahmed is set to feature for Bangla Tigers in the upcoming tournament.

The T20 World Cup 2024 showcased Pakistan's struggles on the international stage, prompting calls for strategic changes within the team. Usman Shinwari's plea for resting senior players and focusing on nurturing young talent highlights the need for a revamped approach to team selection. As Pakistani cricketers gear up for the Global T20 Canada League, they have a chance to regroup and showcase their skills in a different setting, aiming for better outcomes in the future.
