ASTRI's new facility in Shenzhen enhances innovation and collaboration in the Greater Bay Area, focusing on advanced technologies and talent development.
In a significant development for the technology landscape in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), ASTRI Technology Research (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of ASTRI, has officially inaugurated its new facility in the "Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone". This move, which took place earlier this year, is aimed at enhancing innovation and technology cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, two key players in the region's economic growth.
The opening ceremony was attended by notable figures including Ms. Lillian Cheong, Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, and Mr. Zeng Jianpeng, Director-General of the Hetao Development Authority in Shenzhen. Their presence underscored the importance of this initiative in fostering collaboration among government, industry, and research institutions.
Ms. Cheong emphasized the significance of the Hetao Cooperation Zone, stating, "The Hetao Cooperation Zone is crucial for integrating I&T development between Hong Kong and the Mainland. Our goal is to establish a world-class I&T ecosystem that fosters talent and knowledge exchange." This sentiment reflects a broader vision of creating a robust technology industry cluster that can compete on a global scale.
Mr. Zeng Jianpeng also highlighted the commitment of the Hetao Development Authority to support research and technology institutes, particularly those that bridge the gap between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. He remarked, "We will continue to provide robust support and quality services for all research and technology institutes in the Hetao Cooperation Zone." This support is vital for promoting cross-border collaboration and ensuring the smooth flow of talent, goods, and technology.
ASTRI's Chairman, Ir Sunny Lee, noted that the new facility will enhance collaboration with corporations in the GBA. He stated, "ASTRI (Shenzhen) will integrate research capabilities from both regions to strengthen collaboration with GBA corporations." This integration is expected to lead to more cross-border research and development projects, ultimately driving technological transformation and industrialization in the region.
During the opening ceremony, ASTRI (Shenzhen) also signed agreements with three Mainland enterprises, showcasing the potential for partnerships that leverage Hong Kong's innovation capabilities. Ir Sunny Lee commented, "These collaborations exemplify how corporations can leverage Hong Kong's innovation and technology to enhance operational efficiency and overall competitiveness." Such partnerships are crucial for attracting more businesses to engage with ASTRI's research and development capabilities.
The new ASTRI (Shenzhen) facility spans over 1,300 square meters, including office space, an exhibition hall, and a laboratory. Its strategic location within the Hetao Cooperation Zone allows for efficient connectivity, with a commute time of just 35 minutes between ASTRI's Hong Kong headquarters and the Shenzhen facility. This proximity is expected to facilitate seamless collaboration among researchers.
ASTRI (Shenzhen) has already initiated several research and development projects focusing on advanced technologies such as third-generation semiconductors and next-generation communication technologies. These projects aim to promote technology transfer and commercialization while nurturing top-tier talent in the region.
Looking ahead, ASTRI (Shenzhen) aims to serve as a "super connector" among government, industry, academia, and research institutes. Ir Sunny Lee concluded, "We aim to facilitate the transformation and industrialization of collaborative innovation outcomes between Hong Kong and Shenzhen in the Hetao Cooperation Zone and the GBA." This vision aligns with the national goal of developing "new quality productive forces," which is essential for the future economic growth of the region.
In summary, ASTRI's new presence in Shenzhen is not just a milestone for the organization but a pivotal moment for the Greater Bay Area's innovation landscape. By fostering collaboration and leveraging the strengths of both Hong Kong and Shenzhen, ASTRI is poised to play a crucial role in driving technological advancements and economic development in the region.
