A security breach at Tile device trackers led to unauthorized access and theft of customer data. Life360 is investigating the incident with law enforcement.

In a recent incident, the systems of Tile device trackers experienced a security breach, leading to the unauthorized access and theft of customer information. The stolen data included names, addresses, emails, and phone numbers of users. The breach was a result of a hacker exploiting a tool designed for managing law enforcement inquiries related to Tile trackers. Fortunately, the stolen data did not include precise location details of the Tile devices.

Life360, the parent company of Tile, issued a statement confirming the breach. CEO Chris Hulls revealed that the stolen data primarily consisted of Tile tracker IDs. The hacker attempted to extort the company, prompting them to involve law enforcement in the matter. Hulls mentioned that only a limited amount of data was compromised during the breach.

Despite the breach, Life360 has not yet decided whether they will directly contact affected customers. The company is actively collaborating with law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident but has not provided any further updates at this time. The breach occurred as the hacker gained access through login credentials reportedly belonging to a former Tile employee.

The hacker shared screenshots with 404 Media, demonstrating access to internal tools used for transferring ownership of Tile trackers, creating admin accounts, and sending messages to Tile users. It was clarified that the tool accessed was part of the process for responding to law enforcement requests, not a tool directly utilized by law enforcement.

The security breach at Tile device trackers has raised concerns about the protection of customer data. While the company is taking steps to address the situation, users are advised to remain vigilant about their personal information and monitor any suspicious activities related to their Tile accounts.
