BJP leader Gourav Vallabh criticizes Jharkhand's Soren government for mismanagement of Rs 2.5 lakh crore allocated funds amid corruption allegations.

The allocation of funds by the Central government to various states is a crucial aspect of India's financial framework. Recently, a significant amount of Rs 2.5 lakh crore was allocated to Jharkhand over the past five years. However, this allocation has come under scrutiny due to allegations of corruption and mismanagement by the state government led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

BJP leader Gourav Vallabh has been vocal in his criticism of the Soren administration, claiming that while the Central government has made substantial financial contributions, the state government has failed to utilize these funds effectively. Vallabh pointed out that Jharkhand has historically relied on the Centre for about 55 percent of its revenue. Since the BJP took power at the Centre in 2014, the state has reportedly received a total of Rs 4.5 lakh crore. This includes significant investments in infrastructure, such as Rs 37,972 crore for expanding the rail network and Rs 17,000 crore for road development. Additionally, funds have been allocated for tribal welfare, including Rs 917 crore for tribal upliftment and Rs 760 crore for the Tribal Sub Plan.

Despite these generous allocations, Vallabh argues that the Soren government has not made the best use of the resources at its disposal. He raised concerns about the Rs 57,301 crore allocated for the financial year 2024-25, which remains largely unspent. Furthermore, he highlighted the under-utilization of funds in key schemes, such as the Jal Jeevan Mission, where only half of the Rs 11,000 crore allocated was used. Similar patterns were observed in the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan and the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, where only a fraction of the allocated funds was spent.

Vallabh did not hold back in his accusations, claiming that leaders from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress have exploited state resources for personal gain. He alleged that these leaders have focused on seizing prime lands and misdirecting funds from the Jharkhand State Electricity Board into private accounts. Moreover, he criticized the state government for failing to submit proposals for a Rs 1,000 crore tourism circuit grant, a move that contrasts sharply with other states that have actively sought to utilize such Central funds.

The situation has been further complicated by ongoing corruption charges against several government officials, including a District Commissioner, a Chief Engineer, a Minister, and the Minister's Personal Assistant, all of whom are currently facing legal troubles. Vallabh emphasized that the people of Jharkhand are demanding accountability from the Hemant Soren government, predicting that the government’s tenure may come to an end on November 23, following the counting of votes after the elections on November 13 and 20.

The allegations of corruption and mismanagement in Jharkhand raise significant concerns about governance and accountability. As the state prepares for elections, the focus will undoubtedly be on how effectively the government has utilized the funds allocated to it. The outcome of the elections may serve as a referendum on the current administration's performance, and the people of Jharkhand are poised to make their voices heard.
