JHCO launches a campaign to provide prosthetic limbs for Gaza amputees, raising over $2 million to restore hope and mobility.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has left countless individuals in dire need of medical assistance, particularly those who have suffered amputations due to the violence. In response to this urgent humanitarian crisis, the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) has launched a significant fundraising campaign aimed at providing prosthetic limbs to approximately 16,000 amputees in the region. This initiative, aptly named the "Restoring Hope" initiative, seeks to restore mobility and improve the quality of life for those affected by the conflict.
Since its inception in mid-September, the Restoring Hope initiative has already made strides in its mission. A field hospital has been established in Khan Younis, equipped with two mobile clinics that specialize in fitting prosthetic limbs. To date, 120 prosthetic limbs have been fitted for 116 wounded Gazans, marking a crucial step towards helping these individuals regain their independence and resume their daily activities.
Each prosthetic limb costs around $1,400, and the JHCO is calling on individuals, organizations, and institutions from both the private and public sectors to contribute to this noble cause. The organization has successfully raised over $2 million since the campaign began, but the demand for assistance remains high. JHCO Secretary General Hussein Shibli emphasized the importance of continued support, stating, "We call on all sectors and individuals, both in Jordan and abroad, to join this effort and help ease the lives of Gaza's people, allowing them to resume daily activities as naturally as possible."
In addition to individual donations, the JHCO plans to engage with international and regional organizations to garner broader support. A publicity campaign will also be launched across local television and news websites, featuring well-known local and regional influencers to reach potential donors both within and outside Jordan.
One of the remarkable aspects of this initiative is the advanced technology employed in the fitting process. Amputees can begin using their prosthetic limbs within just two hours of fitting, with training tailored to their individual capabilities and routines. This rapid response not only enhances the physical mobility of the recipients but also significantly boosts their morale and sense of normalcy.
As the JHCO continues its efforts to provide essential support to the people of Gaza, it is crucial for the global community to recognize the importance of humanitarian aid in times of crisis. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of those who have suffered unimaginable losses. By coming together to support initiatives like Restoring Hope, we can help restore dignity and hope to those in need, allowing them to rebuild their lives amidst the challenges they face.
