Kate Middleton meets 17-year-old cancer patient Liz Hatton, inspiring her through photography and a heartfelt conversation at Windsor Castle.
In a heartwarming encounter, Prince William and Princess Kate recently met with 17-year-old Liz Hatton, a terminal cancer patient whose inspiring story has captured the attention of many. Diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in January, Liz was given a prognosis of only six months to three years to live. Despite this daunting news, she has chosen to focus on her passion for photography and has created a bucket list of experiences she hopes to achieve.
Liz's photography bucket list gained significant traction on social media, leading to an invitation to Windsor Castle on October 2. There, she had the unique opportunity to take photographs during an investiture ceremony. Reflecting on her experience, Liz shared her surprise at the warm welcome she received from the royal couple. "When we got there, we were told that the prince would say a quick hello. So I thought, OK, you’d be like, ‘Hi’, and then that would be it. But then we were sitting in the little area on the sofa, and then all of a sudden they just walk in and we were like, ‘Oh!’"
During their conversation, Liz and Princess Kate discussed various aspects of photography, including different types of lenses. This exchange not only highlighted Liz's passion but also showcased the genuine interest the royals have in connecting with young individuals facing challenging circumstances. Additionally, Liz was invited to the palace kitchens, where she ensured that her favorite treat, lemon drizzle cake, was prepared for her.
Liz's journey with cancer has been filled with ups and downs, and she candidly expressed her feelings about her bucket list. "I told mum the bucket list was useless. Who would ever let me do any of this?" Despite the uncertainty surrounding her health, Liz remains determined to make the most of her time. She stated, "It is uncertain how long I have, how long I’ll live. But it is certain that it won’t be for a long time. And so because of that, I feel like the only thing you can do is do as much as possible, as much as possible of what you want to do and what you enjoy. And to spend it with the people you love."
Meeting Prince William and Princess Kate left Liz feeling "very honored," a sentiment that resonates deeply with many who face similar battles. Her story serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of cherishing every moment and pursuing one's passions, regardless of the challenges that may lie ahead. In a world where uncertainty often looms, Liz's courage and zest for life inspire us all to embrace our dreams and the people we hold dear.
