Saudi Arabia showcases its rich culture and cuisine to attract Malaysian tourists at a vibrant exhibition in Putrajaya.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has been making significant strides to attract tourists from around the world, particularly from Malaysia. This week, the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) launched a vibrant tourism exhibition in Putrajaya, Malaysia’s administrative capital, aimed at showcasing the Kingdom’s rich heritage, diverse culture, and culinary delights. The five-day event, which coincides with Malaysia’s Independence Day weekend, is the largest travel exhibition organized by Saudi Arabia for Malaysian visitors, marking a pivotal moment in the Kingdom's efforts to tap into Asian markets.

As travelers flock to the exhibition, they are greeted with an array of engaging activities. Visitors can immerse themselves in Saudi heritage through virtual reality experiences that transport them to iconic sites, sample traditional Arabic coffee, and engage directly with tourism officials who are eager to share the Kingdom’s history and culture. Alhasan Aldabbagh, the STA president for Asia-Pacific, expressed his excitement about the overwhelming response, stating that the reception has been "phenomenal" since the event's inception. He noted, "People have been coming in, asking about Saudi, asking about things to do, different activities, different destinations." This enthusiasm highlights a growing interest among Malaysians in exploring the cultural and heritage experiences that Saudi Arabia has to offer.

Every year, tens of thousands of Malaysians travel to Saudi Arabia for the spiritual journeys of Hajj and Umrah. However, this exhibition aims to introduce them to a broader spectrum of experiences beyond the religious pilgrimage. Among the showcased destinations are eight UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the historical area of Jeddah, a significant port for Indian Ocean trade routes, and AlUla, an ancient desert oasis known for its cultural significance. Aldabbagh emphasized the STA's commitment to making Saudi Arabia a prime travel destination, stating, "We have been putting a lot of effort to make Saudi a prime destination..." He also highlighted the diverse culinary offerings across the Kingdom, noting that each of the 13 provinces boasts its own unique and authentic cuisine.

Visitors to the roadshow, such as 25-year-old manager Haziq Rostam, expressed their excitement about the potential adventures awaiting them in Saudi Arabia. Haziq mentioned, "I would look for food, scenery, and attractive places," indicating a desire to explore the Kingdom's natural beauty and culinary landscape. Similarly, 30-year-old office executive Nik Rafiuddin Nik Rashid pointed out that the Kingdom's food scene is particularly appealing to Malaysian Muslims, as it easily accommodates halal dietary requirements. He also expressed interest in adventure activities, saying, "I have seen from reels that people have shared, they have gone to the desert in trucks and slid on the sand. For me, this would be unique... if I was given the chance, I would like to try that."

The Saudi tourism sector is experiencing growth under the Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to position the Kingdom as a dynamic and diverse year-round travel destination. The roadshow in Malaysia is part of a broader strategy that includes similar events in other Asian countries, providing travelers with a fresh perspective on what they can experience in Saudi Arabia. Ainil Abdul Aziz, a student who attended the exhibition, shared her thoughts, stating that while she is familiar with the Kingdom due to Umrah and Hajj, she is now considering traveling for sightseeing as well. "There is a hiking opportunity... and we can go to some urban area also," she said, expressing a desire to experience local life as a tourist.

The Saudi tourism exhibition in Malaysia serves as a gateway for travelers to discover the Kingdom's rich cultural tapestry and diverse experiences. As more Malaysians become aware of the unique attractions that Saudi Arabia has to offer, it is clear that the Kingdom is not just a destination for spiritual journeys but also a place for adventure, culinary exploration, and cultural immersion. With ongoing efforts to promote tourism, Saudi Arabia is poised to become a favored destination for travelers seeking new experiences and unforgettable memories.
