Zelensky Urges Enhanced Air Defenses Amid Russian Drone Attacks

In recent weeks, Ukraine has faced a significant increase in aerial attacks from Russia, prompting President Volodymyr Zelensky to call for enhanced air defenses. “Ukraine is not a testing ground for weapons. Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state. But Russia still continues its efforts to kill our people, spread fear and panic, and weaken us,” Zelensky emphasized. On the same day, the Ukrainian military reported that air defense units had successfully destroyed more than 10 Russian drones targeting Kyiv during an overnight assault. However, witnesses in Kyiv reported hearing explosions, suggesting that air defense systems were actively engaged in countering the threat.

Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, noted, “The UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) were flying in different directions toward Kyiv.” He added that the air raid alert in the city lasted for more than three hours, indicating the seriousness of the situation and the need for constant vigilance.
