AACO honors Akbar Al Baker for his impactful contributions to the aviation industry at the 57th Annual General Meeting.

The Arab Air Carriers' Organization (AACO) recently held its 57th Annual General Meeting, where it honored HE Akbar Al Baker for his remarkable contributions to the aviation industry. Al Baker, who served as the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways from 1997 until 2023, has been a significant figure in the aviation sector, not only in Qatar but across the Arab world.

During his tenure, Al Baker was first elected to the AACO Executive Committee in 2011 and continued to serve until 2023. His leadership was further recognized when he was elected Chairman of the Executive Committee in 2013, a position he held for three years. Under his guidance, Qatar Airways hosted the AACO's Annual General Meetings in 2001, 2013, and 2021, where he played a crucial role in shaping discussions and decisions that impacted the aviation industry.

Eng. Samer Majali, the Vice Chairman and CEO of Royal Jordanian, emphasized Al Baker's influential role during his time as Chairman of AACO's General Assembly and Executive Committee. Majali noted that Al Baker's efforts led to significant achievements and fostered a spirit of cooperation and development among member airlines.

HE Eng. Ibrahim A. Al-Omar, the Director General of Saudia and Chairman of the AACO Executive Committee, expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Al Baker. He stated, "I would like to express, on behalf of the members of the executive committee and in my own name, our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to our dear brother, Akbar Al-Baker, for his contributions throughout his career, which have had a significant impact on the development of the aviation sector." Al-Omar further described Al Baker as a practical individual who has built one of the largest airlines in the world over three decades.

Abdul Wahab Teffaha, the AACO Secretary General, also acknowledged Al Baker's dedication to the organization. He highlighted Al Baker's efforts in defending the interests of Arab airlines in various international forums, including his roles in the IATA Board of Governors and the IATA Chair Committee.

The recognition of HE Akbar Al Baker at the AACO's 57th Annual General Meeting serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the aviation industry.
