Ali Majid, the General Manager of LONGi Solar’s Pakistan Branch, leads the charge in driving business growth in the MEA & CA region. With a Ph.D. Candidate in Industrial Management and extensive experience in marketing, Ali is at the forefront of the renewable energy sector.

LONGi Solar, a prominent Chinese company, has made significant strides in the solar industry since its inception in 2000. With a global market share of 40 percent in solar wafer manufacturing, LONGi expanded into panel manufacturing in 2015, becoming fully vertically integrated.

In late 2019, LONGi entered the Pakistani market and has since sold approximately 5GW of solar panels, capturing a 34 percent market share. Despite considering local production in Pakistan, challenges such as import duties and cost-effectiveness have hindered progress.

The recent drop in solar panel prices globally, attributed to oversupply, has benefited consumers in Pakistan, leading to increased imports. However, discussions on reducing rates for solar power generation through net metering are ongoing, awaiting further policy developments.

As Pakistan embraces solar energy solutions, companies like LONGi Solar play a crucial role in driving the market forward. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, the future of solar energy in Pakistan looks promising, offering consumers affordable and eco-friendly energy alternatives.
