FBR's ePayment 2.0 revolutionizes tax payments in Pakistan, allowing secure online transactions without bank visits.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken a significant step towards modernizing the tax payment process in Pakistan. On November 13, 2024, the FBR announced the launch of a new payment creation system called ePayment 2.0. This innovative system is designed to make online payments secure, efficient, and user-friendly, allowing taxpayers to complete their transactions without the need to visit a bank physically.
The introduction of ePayment 2.0 aligns with the government's vision to enhance Pakistan's tax infrastructure. The FBR stated, "FBR is reinforcing its commitment to advancing tax administration and enhancing revenue collection through advanced digital solutions." This new system is integrated within the IRIS 2.0 portal, making it easily accessible for taxpayers.
One of the most notable features of ePayment 2.0 is its ability to connect directly to taxpayers' bank accounts through various channels such as internet banking, ATMs, and mobile banking. This eliminates the hassle of having to switch between different portals, which was a requirement in the previous system. The FBR emphasized that ePayment 2.0 covers a wide range of taxes, including income tax, sales tax, federal excise duty, and withholding taxes, making it a comprehensive solution for all taxpayers.
To facilitate quick and convenient payments, the system generates a unique Payment Slip ID (PSID) for each transaction. Once a payment is completed, taxpayers receive a computerized payment receipt (CPR) via email and SMS, providing them with official confirmation of their payment. This feature not only streamlines the payment process but also ensures that taxpayers have easy access to their payment records for future reference.
The FBR has also incorporated a secure, multi-step workflow that allows taxpayers to generate a PSID, complete their payment through Automated Debit Channels (ADC), and receive their CPR in real-time. This level of automation significantly reduces errors and delays, enhancing the overall tax payment experience. The FBR highlighted that the system includes a comprehensive PSID search feature, enabling taxpayers to easily retrieve and confirm their payment records.
The launch of ePayment 2.0 represents a major advancement in Pakistan's tax administration. By simplifying the payment process and enhancing transparency and accountability, the FBR is not only making it easier for taxpayers to fulfill their obligations but also supporting a business-friendly environment. As technology continues to evolve, it is crucial for tax authorities to adapt and provide solutions that meet the needs of the public. With ePayment 2.0, the FBR is paving the way for a more efficient and compliant tax system in Pakistan.
