Jazz and UNDP sign MoU to enhance digital literacy and empower marginalized communities in Pakistan.
In a significant move towards enhancing digital and financial literacy in Pakistan, Jazz has entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This partnership aims to empower marginalized communities, particularly youth and women, by equipping them with essential skills needed for the digital economy. The collaboration builds on an already successful relationship between Jazz and UNDP, focusing on inclusive development and sustainable economic growth through technology-driven solutions.
The MoU was officially signed by Aamir Ibrahim, the CEO of Jazz, and Dr. Samuel Rizk, the Resident Representative of UNDP. This agreement marks a commitment to intensify efforts in providing training and resources to those who are often left behind in the digital age. By targeting youth, women, and entrepreneurs from marginalized backgrounds, Jazz and UNDP are working together to bridge the digital divide that exists in Pakistan.
One of the key objectives of this collaboration is to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting diversity and inclusion in technology and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. The partnership also aims to mobilize the private sector to contribute to global sustainability efforts. Jazz has previously engaged in successful initiatives such as the Jazz Youth Employment Program and the Women’s Initiative in Social Entrepreneurship (WISE) programme, which have already made a positive impact by equipping young entrepreneurs and women with vital skills to tackle societal challenges.
Aamir Ibrahim, the CEO of Jazz, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "This collaboration with UNDP aligns with our purpose of enhancing the lives and livelihoods of Pakistani women and youth through technology. By integrating our technological capabilities and outreach with UNDP’s leadership in sustainable development, we are bridging the digital divide and empowering underserved communities." This statement highlights the shared vision of both organizations to create opportunities for those who need it the most.
Dr. Rizk also emphasized the importance of private-sector collaboration in achieving sustainable development goals. He remarked, "Through this MoU, we are unlocking new opportunities for digital transformation in Pakistan, ensuring that no one is left behind as we work toward a more equitable future for communities with limited or no digital access." This underscores the critical role that partnerships play in fostering an inclusive digital landscape.
The MoU also aims to support various initiatives, including digitalization and data analytics in areas such as climate resilience, disaster prevention, and social protection. By addressing the digital divide through targeted capacity-building programs in educational and public-sector training institutions, Jazz and UNDP are committed to delivering lasting social and economic impact across Pakistan.
The partnership between Jazz and UNDP represents a promising step towards a more inclusive digital future for Pakistan. By focusing on empowering marginalized communities, this collaboration not only aims to enhance individual livelihoods but also contributes to the overall economic growth of the country. As technology continues to evolve, initiatives like this are crucial in ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive in the digital economy, paving the way for a brighter and more equitable future.
