Regal Automobiles receives EDB approval to manufacture Pakistan's first electric SUV, Seres 3, with production starting soon.
In a significant development for Pakistan's automotive industry, Regal Automobiles has received approval from the Engineering Development Board of Pakistan (EDB) to manufacture the country’s first electric SUV. This move marks a pivotal moment in the shift towards sustainable transportation in Pakistan, as the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise globally.
The electric SUV, named the Seres 3, will be available in two variants. The first variant, the Seres 3 (3.5), comes equipped with a 49kWh battery and can comfortably seat five passengers. The second variant, the Seres 3 (4.0), features a slightly larger 54kWh battery, also with a five-seat capacity. Customers who pre-book their vehicles will receive the more powerful 54kWh version, while others will get the 49kWh model. This strategy not only incentivizes early purchases but also showcases Regal's commitment to customer satisfaction.
Production of the Seres 3 is set to commence at Regal’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Manga Mandi, Lahore. A formal launch ceremony is anticipated by the end of October, generating excitement among potential buyers and industry stakeholders alike. Muhammad Adeel Usman, the Managing Director of Seres Pakistan, expressed enthusiasm about this venture, stating, "We are excited to bring Pakistan’s first locally assembled electric SUV, the Seres 3, to the market. This marks a significant step toward a more sustainable automotive future and provides a cost-effective electric vehicle option for our consumers." This statement underscores the importance of electric vehicles in addressing environmental concerns and providing affordable transportation solutions.
Regal Automobiles has partnered with Seres, an international electric vehicle manufacturer, to introduce the Seres 3 to the Pakistani market. This collaboration is part of a broader trend in the automotive sector, as other companies, such as Dewan Farooque Motors Limited (DFML), are also exploring electric vehicle manufacturing. DFML recently announced a toll manufacturing agreement with ECO-Green Motors Limited for the production of the Honri-VE, a hatchback equivalent electric vehicle. Such partnerships reflect a growing recognition of the need for electric mobility solutions in Pakistan.
The introduction of electric vehicles like the Seres 3 could provide a viable solution to Pakistan’s rising fuel costs and help alleviate pressure on the country’s foreign reserves in the long term. As the nation grapples with economic challenges, the shift towards electric vehicles may offer a sustainable path forward.
Founded in 2017 as a joint venture between DFSK (DongFeng Sokon) and the RP Group, Regal Automobiles has established itself as a key player in Pakistan’s automotive landscape. The company’s manufacturing facility spans 26 acres and is equipped with advanced ED painting technology, ensuring high-quality production standards. Additionally, Regal operates a network of 19 independent 3S dealerships across the country, making their vehicles accessible to a wide audience.
As Pakistan embraces electric mobility, the market is witnessing an influx of electric cars. Earlier this year, Master Motors launched its high-end Changan’s Deepal EVs, while DFML began assembling more affordable electric vehicles, the Honri 2.0 and 3.0. Furthermore, the entry of Chinese automotive giant BYD into the Pakistani market, along with Air Link's plans to import Xiaomi electric vehicles, indicates a growing interest in electric transportation solutions.
The launch of the Seres 3 electric SUV by Regal Automobiles is a promising step towards a greener future for Pakistan. As more companies invest in electric vehicle technology, consumers will benefit from a wider range of options, potentially leading to a more sustainable and economically viable transportation system. The future of mobility in Pakistan looks bright, and it is essential for consumers to stay informed and consider the advantages of electric vehicles as they make their purchasing decisions.
