Fazal Moqeem Khan has been elected as the new president of SCCI, marking a significant leadership change aimed at enhancing trade opportunities.

PESHAWAR: The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has recently made significant strides in its leadership by electing Fazal Moqeem Khan as the new president, alongside Abdul Jalil Jan and Shehryar Khan, who will serve as senior vice president and vice president, respectively. This decision was reached during a meeting held by the Election Commission at the chamber house on Saturday, where it was confirmed that the elections were unopposed, meaning no other candidates were nominated against them.

The Election Commission, which included members Malik Niaz Ahmad, Abdul Hakim Shinwari, and Zarak Khan, announced that the newly elected office bearers will officially take on their roles starting October 1, 2024. This smooth transition reflects a strong consensus among the members of the SCCI, as no nomination papers were submitted against the three candidates.

In accordance with the Trade Organization Rule 2013, specifically Rule 18, Sub-Rule 18, the newly elected executive committee members also endorsed Fazal Moqeem, Abdul Jalil Jan, and Shehryar Khan for their respective positions. This endorsement is a testament to the confidence that the members have in their leadership abilities.

In addition to the top three positions, several other members were elected to the SCCI Executive Committee for the term 2024-26. Notable names include Abbas Fuad Azeem, Adnan Nasir, Aftab Iqbal, and Hassan Zahideen from the Corporate Group. Meanwhile, the Associate Group welcomed Abdul Jalil Jan, Abdul Naseer, Gul Zaman, and others. Furthermore, the inclusion of two women, Aafia Walayat and Shahida Parveen, on reserved seats in the executive committee marks a progressive step towards gender representation in business leadership.

It is also worth noting that Muhammad Sajjad has already secured his position as a member from the Bannu Town Association, further diversifying the representation within the SCCI. The upcoming Annual General Meeting of the SCCI is scheduled for September 30, 2024, at the chamber house, where members will gather to discuss future plans and initiatives.

The election of Fazal Moqeem Khan and his team is not just a routine change in leadership; it symbolizes a commitment to fostering a robust business environment in the region. As the SCCI embarks on this new chapter, it is expected that the newly elected officials will prioritize the interests of local businesses and work towards enhancing trade opportunities. The business community in Peshawar and beyond will be keenly observing how these leaders will navigate the challenges ahead and drive economic growth in the coming years.
