SCCI expresses concerns over economic slowdown in Pakistan due to political unrest, urging for dialogue to restore stability.
Peshawar - The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has raised serious concerns regarding the ongoing slowdown in economic and trade activities in Pakistan. This downturn is largely attributed to the current political unrest that has gripped the nation. The SCCI cabinet warns that if these issues are not addressed promptly, they could lead to further damage to the economy and businesses across the country.
In a joint statement released by SCCI President Fazal Moqeem Khan and his cabinet members, it was highlighted that a complete lockdown situation has emerged due to widespread political protests. These protests have effectively halted business and trade activities nationwide. Furthermore, the cabinet pointed out that online businesses are also suffering due to the slowdown of internet services, which has compounded the challenges faced by entrepreneurs and traders.
The SCCI officials noted that business, trade, and export activities have already seen a decline under the current circumstances. They expressed concern that the ongoing protest sit-ins would only exacerbate the situation, which is detrimental not only to businesses but also to the general populace and the country as a whole.
In light of these challenges, the SCCI has urged the federal government and relevant authorities to engage in negotiations to resolve all issues peacefully. The cabinet emphasized that maintaining law and order is essential for the smooth functioning of economic, trade, and business activities. They believe that a peaceful atmosphere is crucial for economic stability and growth, which in turn is vital for enhancing business, trade, and exports.
Fazal Moqeem Khan stressed that the country’s economy remains unstable, and the continued closure of business and trade activities could push it toward a complete standstill. He called upon both the government and protesters to choose dialogue and negotiations as a means to address their differences, highlighting that creating an environment of anarchy and instability is not in anyone's best interest.
The SCCI's concerns reflect a broader issue that affects not just businesses but the entire nation. It is imperative for all stakeholders to come together and find common ground to ensure that economic activities can resume and thrive. A collaborative approach will not only help in stabilizing the economy but also pave the way for sustainable growth and prosperity for the people of Pakistan.
