Jennifer Garner makes a significant return as Elektra in Deadpool & Wolverine, sharing her intense training and emotional journey back to the iconic role.
Jennifer Garner, the talented actress known for her roles in various blockbuster films, is making a comeback as Elektra in the upcoming movie Deadpool & Wolverine. This marks a significant return for Garner, who last portrayed the character nearly 20 years ago. As she gears up for this exciting role, Garner has shared insights into her intense workout routine, showcasing her dedication to getting back into superhero shape.
On August 5, 2023, the 52-year-old actress took to her official Instagram account to share a video of her rigorous training sessions. In her post, she revealed how she was approached by Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy while on the set of The Adam Project. Garner described the moment, saying, “We were on the set of The Adam Project and they gave each other this look they have that can communicate an idea, 20 pages of dialogue, nuclear codes — there is a crazy artistic kismet between those two.” This moment sparked the beginning of her journey back to the iconic role.
Garner humorously noted that aside from convincing her children’s preschool friends that she was secretly a ninja, she had not picked up Elektra’s sais since 2004. She stated, “I was fit, but not @marvel fit,” highlighting the level of fitness required for a Marvel superhero. To prepare for the role, she expressed her gratitude towards her stunt double, saying, “As this impossible dream became reality, my bestie and OG stunt double @shaunaduggins and I amped up our training, led by @bethnicely at @thelimitfit: 1x/day, plus whatever homework she assigned for a second workout.” This dedication to training is essential for portraying a character as physically demanding as Elektra.
Garner also reflected on the emotional aspect of her return, stating, “I didn’t know that Elektra and I needed an ending, but Shawn and Ryan did.” This indicates that the filmmakers have a vision for the character’s development that resonates with both the actress and the audience.
For those who may not be familiar, Jennifer Garner first took on the role of Elektra in 2003 in Marvel’s Daredevil, where she starred alongside Ben Affleck. Her standalone film, Elektra, was released in 2005, further establishing her as a beloved character in the Marvel universe.
Jennifer Garner’s return as Elektra in Deadpool & Wolverine is not just a nostalgic moment for fans but also a testament to her commitment to the role. Her rigorous training and dedication to the character demonstrate the hard work that goes into preparing for such iconic roles. As audiences eagerly await the film's release, Garner’s journey serves as an inspiration for anyone looking to pursue their dreams, no matter how long it takes.
