Alhamra Ajoka Theatre's 'Oonth Patang' captivates audiences with student talent and addresses social issues through engaging storytelling.

In a vibrant celebration of creativity and talent, the Alhamra Ajoka Theatre Workshop recently presented its public performance of "Oonth Patang," a play that has captivated audiences with its engaging storytelling and impressive execution. This production not only highlights the skills of the students involved but also addresses important social issues through the lens of art.

The play, which translates to "Camel Kite," draws inspiration from a tragic real-life incident where a landlord ordered the harsh punishment of a camel for merely trespassing. This event serves as the backdrop for the story of Sassi, the camel, who embarks on a quest for justice against the oppressive wadera. The narrative cleverly intertwines Sassi's journey with the legendary tale of Sassi Punoon, a beloved character in South Asian folklore.

Set against the rich cultural tapestry of South Punjab, "Oonth Patang" incorporates traditional folk dances and Sufi poetry, making it not only entertaining but also deeply meaningful. The audience was particularly enchanted by a large camel puppet, skillfully designed and developed by student Dildar Mustafa and his team, which added a unique visual element to the performance.

Due to the overwhelming response from the audience, Alhamra Ajoka Theatre announced an additional performance of "Oonth Patang" on October 6 (Sunday) at Alhamra Hall 2. This second show provides another opportunity for theatre enthusiasts to witness this thought-provoking production.

During the event, renowned writer-actor Feryal Gauhar and Lahore Arts Council Chairman Razi Ahmad presented certificates to the participants of the workshop, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. The talented cast included Dildaar Mustafa, Abdullah Saif, Sadeed Zia, Eisha tur Raazia, Shams ul Haq, Abu Huraira, Shafeeh Sheikh, Saima Sajad, Aiman Munir, Saif-ur-Rehman, Javed Bhatti, Hanad Ahmad, and Munib-ur-Rehman, all of whom delivered impressive performances that resonated with the audience.

Ajoka’s Executive Director Shahid Nadeem, along with Razi Ahmad and Feryal Gauhar, praised the students for their remarkable efforts. Nadeem emphasized the importance of nurturing emerging talent and expressed Ajoka's commitment to collaborating with other institutions dedicated to promoting theatre and meaningful art.

"Oonth Patang" is more than just a play; it is a reflection of the power of storytelling to address social injustices and inspire change. The dedication of the students and the support from the community highlight the vital role of theatre in fostering creativity and dialogue. As audiences continue to engage with such productions, it becomes clear that the arts remain a crucial platform for expression and awareness in society.
