Poet Ahmed Farhad's bail plea was rejected by the Muzaffarabad ATC, highlighting the complexities of his case as legal proceedings unfold amidst health concerns and his mysterious disappearance during protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Poet Ahmed Farhad's bail plea was recently turned down by the Muzaffarabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) after a thorough hearing. The court's decision came after concerns were raised about Farhad's health, prompting a medical checkup just days before the hearing. A team of specialists from the Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences conducted the examination.
Farhad, a Kashmiri poet known for his outspoken poetry, made headlines when he went missing during protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. His wife, Urooj Zainab, claimed that he was taken from their home on May 14, leading her to file a petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for his recovery and the prosecution of those responsible for his disappearance.
After being missing for 15 days, the Attorney General of Pakistan revealed on May 29 that Farhad was in the custody of AJK police. Subsequently, Farhad's family met him at the Kahori police station near Muzaffarabad. However, the IHC declined the federal government's request to close the case until Farhad appeared in court physically. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani emphasized that the case would only conclude once Farhad was presented in court.
The rejection of Ahmed Farhad's bail plea by the Muzaffarabad ATC sheds light on the complexities surrounding his case. As the legal proceedings continue, the poet's supporters eagerly await further developments in the pursuit of justice.
