Syrian artist Khaled Akil's debut exhibition in the UAE, 'The Infinite & The Finite,' showcases vibrant paintings exploring existential themes and interconnectedness through ethereal cloud depictions.
Syrian artist Khaled Akil's first solo exhibition in the UAE, titled 'The Infinite & The Finite,' showcases 20 paintings at Ayyam Gallery in Alserkal Avenue, Dubai. Akil, primarily known as a photographer, delves into painting to express life experiences beyond the scope of photography. Influenced by his father, renowned Syrian painter Youssef Akil, Akil's journey into painting was a personal challenge to find his unique voice.
Experimenting with oils, Akil spent nearly two years developing his painting technique, blending conscious decision-making with organic, free-flowing creativity. His process involves a delicate balance of control and spontaneity, guided by a sense of when to stop. Each painting in the exhibition exudes intimacy and infinity, inviting viewers to experience rather than just observe.
Akil's artworks depict ethereal clouds in vibrant hues, evoking a sense of timelessness and boundless space. The intricate layers of paint create a mesmerizing effect, resembling microorganisms within the vast expanse of the clouds. Through his art, Akil explores profound questions of infinity and the universe, offering no definitive answers but inviting contemplation.
From his viral series 'Pokemon Go in Syria' to his latest venture into painting, Akil's body of work reflects a continuous exploration of existential themes. His paintings serve as windows into a realm of infinite possibilities, challenging viewers to ponder the mysteries of existence and the interconnectedness of all things.
