President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry lays foundation for Rs569 million projects at Women University Bagh, enhancing women's education in Kashmir.
On November 14, 2024, a significant milestone was achieved at the Women University in Bagh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry laid the foundation stones for two major construction projects. These projects, valued at a total of Rs569 million, include a Rs315 million administrative block and a Rs254 million state-of-the-art student hostel. This initiative marks a crucial step towards enhancing the educational infrastructure for women in the region.
During the ceremony, President Chaudhry emphasized his lifelong commitment to raising awareness about the Kashmir cause on a global scale. He expressed his dedication to addressing the local challenges faced by the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. "Visiting Bagh has always been a pleasant experience for me, particularly the Women's University, which was established to provide higher education and training opportunities for women in the liberated territory," he stated.
The President expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by the university, noting that the initial challenges related to basic infrastructure, land acquisition, and attracting qualified faculty have been successfully addressed. He expressed optimism that the university would soon boast a modern infrastructure, enabling graduates to serve the nation more effectively.
Furthermore, President Chaudhry acknowledged the support from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and the Government of Azad Kashmir in strengthening the only university dedicated to women in the region. He highlighted the establishment of the first software technology park for women in collaboration with the Pakistan Software Export Board, which aims to empower female students with essential skills in technology.
In his address, the President praised the talent of women in the liberated territory, stating that they possess numerous natural abilities that can significantly contribute to the country. He expressed pride in the university's achievements, particularly its recognition in global rankings despite facing various challenges.
President Chaudhry also underscored the importance of sports in the mental development of students, commending the Women's University for providing ample opportunities for female students to engage in sports activities. He noted that the girls from the region have great potential to excel in national competitions.
As the Chancellor of Azad Kashmir Universities, he urged students to remember the struggles of their fellow Kashmiris who are enduring hardships under Indian occupation. "We should support our Kashmiri brethren in every possible way," he remarked, emphasizing the need for the new generation to be educated about the sacrifices made during the liberation struggle.
In a separate event organized by the District Bar Association Bagh, President Chaudhry highlighted the vital role of lawyers in delivering justice and upholding the rule of law. He called upon the legal community to raise their voices against the ongoing atrocities in occupied Kashmir and to utilize social media platforms to bring global attention to the Kashmir issue.
