Discover how the installation of solar-powered street lights in Gwadar, Pakistan, by Chinese companies has transformed the city's infrastructure, enhancing safety, visibility, and commercial activities while improving the quality of life for residents.
Gwadar, a port city in Pakistan, has recently seen a significant improvement in its infrastructure with the installation of solar-powered street lights. This development comes as a result of a collaborative effort between the China Communication and Constructions Company and the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Karachi. Prior to this initiative, local residents in Gwadar faced challenges with unstable power supply, especially during the night.
A total of 73 solar-powered street lights have been strategically placed in key locations across the city. These include 18 poles at the East Bay Expressway junction, 19 poles at the fish landing area on the west bay along Marine Drive, 26 poles at the fish harbor (jetty), and 10 poles at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ). The installation of these lights has not only enhanced visibility and safety but has also paved the way for uninterrupted commercial activities, particularly in the fishing sector.
In a separate initiative in 2022, Chinese companies, in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy and China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment, donated 4,000 sets of solar photovoltaic systems and LED lights to local residents in Gwadar. This additional effort underscores China’s commitment to improving the quality of life for the local population in the region.
The introduction of solar-powered street lights in Gwadar marks a significant step towards sustainable development and enhanced community welfare. With improved infrastructure and access to reliable lighting, residents can look forward to a brighter and more prosperous future in Gwadar.
