Islamabad Police issued 1,436 e-challans in September, enhancing road safety and reducing traffic violations through an efficient e-challan system.

The implementation of the e-challan system by the Islamabad Police has emerged as a crucial step towards enhancing road safety and enforcing traffic laws in the capital city. This innovative approach has not only streamlined the process of issuing traffic tickets but has also contributed significantly to reducing fatal accidents and other traffic violations.

In September alone, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) issued a remarkable total of 1,436 e-challan tickets. This brings the cumulative number of tickets issued to over 0.274 million for various traffic violations since the system's inception. The e-challan system operates in accordance with international standards, ensuring that traffic laws are strictly adhered to in Islamabad.

One of the standout features of this system is its integration with the Excise and Taxation department’s linked database. This allows for efficient legal action against violators. When a traffic violation occurs, the offender receives an e-challan notification directly on their mobile phone, making the process not only efficient but also transparent. Additionally, the issued challan tickets are sent directly to the homes of vehicle and motorcycle owners, ensuring that they are promptly informed of any fines.

In cases where fines are not paid within the specified time frame, the challan copy is affixed to the vehicle's master file at the Excise and Taxation office. This means that until the fine is settled, the vehicle or motorcycle cannot be transferred to another person's name. This strict measure serves as a deterrent against traffic violations.

To make it easier for citizens to pay their fines, the system offers convenient options such as mobile wallets and bank account payments. This flexibility encourages compliance and helps maintain order on the roads.

Shakir Hussain Dawar, the Director General of Safe City, has expressed optimism regarding the e-challan system's effectiveness. He noted that the system has led to a significant decline in fatal accidents and other traffic violations, thanks to the effective monitoring facilitated by Safe City’s cameras. The continuous improvement of the e-challan system is aimed at utilizing modern technology to prevent accidents and ensure strict adherence to traffic laws.

The e-challan system represents a significant advancement in traffic management in Islamabad. By leveraging technology, the Islamabad Police are not only enforcing traffic laws more effectively but are also fostering a culture of responsibility among drivers. As citizens become more aware of the consequences of their actions on the road, it is hoped that this will lead to safer streets for everyone. The ongoing commitment to improving this system is a positive sign for the future of road safety in the capital.
